Vintage Shaded Relief World Map - Fuller Projection

These are NOT 3D maps. They are 2D maps printed of a flat surface. These are decorative maps, not for study, reference or close-ups. Note that the Great Lakes are not visible on these maps for technical reasons.

ABOUT THE MAP

Fuller projection: The Fuller projection, also known as Dymaxion map, converts the globe into a 20-sided figure called an icosahedron. Each side is a geodesic triangle that is then flattened into a two-dimensional triangle. The facets of the icosahedron are unfolded in a specific manner to keep the land masses unbroken. The final version was described by Buckminster Fuller in 1954 after working on the map for several decades. This beautiful World Map shows land cover in a natural style, created to show the relief of the continents in a vintage and contemporary way. Relief is obtained from the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM). We focus on every detail of production and all our products are carefully designed and packaged to enrichen your home. Our maps are also great gifts.

Hi! We are really glad that you are interested in our maps! We make maps because we love geography and art. With this short text, we try to explain how we make the maps:

This are old maps restored and combined with a modern relief map created with elevation satellite data (printed in 2D, maps are flat to touch), showing the relief of the places in a vintage and contemporary way, giving them a new perspective.

Relief is obtained from the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) and we use some softwares and techniques to make the maps look like they have a real relief. Some maps do not have an old base, they are just relief maps, and just stylized to look like antique or modern maps. Some maps, such as those of the moon and planets and world maps can also go through this process too. All other maps are all based on old maps.

Making these maps is not an easy thing. To sum up, the process can be seen in the images below:
